Wheel alignment and vehicle inspections
We align vehicles on our own machine and do three kinds of inspection: a pre-purchase check before you buy a used vehicle, the Mechanical Fitness Assessment Alberta asks for on a sale, and Vehicle For Hire inspections for rideshare and taxi drivers.
Alignments on our own machine
A four wheel alignment sets the angles back to the manufacturer's specifications, so the vehicle tracks straight, the steering wheel sits level and your tires stop scrubbing themselves out on one edge.
When it is worth doing
With new tires, after suspension or steering work, after a collision repair, or any time the vehicle pulls or the wheel is off centre. Edmonton potholes are reason enough on their own.
What happens on the machine
The vehicle goes on the alignment rack, we measure where the angles actually sit against the factory numbers, and set them back. If a worn part is what pulled the geometry out, we tell you before the alignment rather than after, because aligning around a bad tie rod is money wasted.
Alignments are also the last step of a collision repair here, so a vehicle that took a hit drives straight when it leaves.
Pre-purchase, MFA and VFH
Three different inspections for three different reasons. Tell us which one you need when you book, and we will tell you how long to leave the vehicle with us.
Pre-purchase inspection
Before you hand over the money on a used vehicle, bring it here. We put it on the hoist and go through the brakes, suspension, steering, tires, fluids and leaks, look for signs of collision repair and rust, and read the vehicle for stored fault codes.
You get a straight list of what is wrong, what it will cost to put right, and whether we would buy it. That conversation has talked plenty of people out of a bad car and into a better one.
Mechanical Fitness Assessment
An MFA is the report Alberta requires before a used vehicle is sold by a dealer, and to register a vehicle brought in from out of province. We inspect the vehicle, list what we find and fill out the form.
Selling privately rather than through a dealer? An MFA in the file gives your buyer a reason to trust the price.
Vehicle For Hire inspection
VFH inspections for Uber, taxi and other rideshare drivers, so you can keep your licence current.
Book a time rather than walking in; it takes the vehicle out of service for a while and we would rather you were not sitting here waiting on it.
